February half-term ski chalet, planned around the school calendar
Chalets in Courchevel, Verbier, Zermatt and St. Moritz for families who ski during the February school holidays and want every detail settled early.
For families with school-age children, February is the ski month. Schools across Europe pause for their winter break, the resorts fill with children in ski school and parents finally have a week to share the mountains with them. A February half-term ski chalet has to work for the whole household at once: the youngest skier on the nursery slope, the teenager who wants to go off on their own and the grandparents who may prefer the spa.
The difficulty is that everyone travels at once. Many British schools break for a week around the middle of February, French winter holidays are staggered by region across February and into early March, and international schools follow calendars of their own. Families from several countries often end up competing for the same weeks, and the most practical chalets are among the first to go.
This page is for parents planning around the school calendar. It compares our four ski resorts from a family point of view, sets out what to secure as soon as term dates are published and introduces chalets that make a February week with children easier.
The weeks every family wants
February brings together the school holidays and the heart of winter, which makes it one of the busiest stretches of the Alpine season. The chalets that families favour, those close to the pistes or with an indoor pool to finish the day, are reserved early, and the same is true of ski school places and private instructors in the resorts.
Our advice is simple: begin the conversation as soon as your school publishes its term dates. Once the chalet is secured, your private concierge can help you plan the rest of the week around lessons, childcare and the evenings you want to spend together. If siblings attend schools with different calendars, tell us early and we will look for dates that work for everyone.
- Share the exact school holiday dates for each child
- Tell us the age and ski level of everyone travelling
- Decide whether you would like childcare during the day or the evening
- Mention any grandparents or friends who may join for part of the week
Which resort suits your family
Courchevel offers a wide spread of terrain within Les 3 Vallées, which helps families with mixed abilities. Chalet Erise in Courchevel 1850 lets children clip into their skis at the door, and Chalet Flys, in the quiet Les Brigues quarter of Courchevel Village, is about 100 metres from the slopes. Verbier, in the 4 Vallées, tends to suit families with older or more confident skiers: from Chalet Auron a gentle piste is two minutes away on foot, and the Chalet Astral estate gives skiers a direct glide into the ski area.
Zermatt’s car-free streets make it one of the most relaxed villages for walking with small children, and Chalet Anelle, in the heart of the village, has a private lift that helps with pushchairs and tired legs alike. St. Moritz offers the sunny slopes of Corviglia and plenty for non-skiers in the Engadin; Chalet Azelia, close to the centre, puts Corviglia only minutes away.
A week shaped around children
On a family ski week, the hours around skiing matter as much as the skiing. Childcare can be arranged on request, so parents can spend a morning or an evening together. Breakfast is included every day, and a private chef can cook early suppers for the children and a later dinner for the adults. Indoor pools, cinema rooms and spas, found in many of our chalets, fill the late afternoons when small legs have had enough.
Getting there is planned with the same care. Chauffeurs and transfers can be arranged from Geneva or Zurich, depending on the resort, and helicopter transfers are available on request for families who would rather shorten the journey. Your dedicated contact stays alongside you from the first conversation to the journey home, which is particularly helpful when travelling with luggage, ski equipment and young children.
Family chalets for February
Chalets across our four ski resorts that suit a February week with children. We confirm availability for your school dates, along with the sleeping arrangements, when we send our proposal.
What makes the difference
Every residence is visited by our team, every stay is followed by one dedicated contact, and breakfast and a private concierge are always included.
Four resorts compared for you
We work in Courchevel, Verbier, Zermatt and St. Moritz, and can tell you how each suits children of different ages. You compare resorts with one adviser rather than several.
Ready when term dates appear
We move as soon as your school calendar is published, while the widest choice of chalets remains. Some family-friendly residences we work with are not shown online at all.
Time for parents too
Childcare can be arranged on request during the day or in the evening. That way the adults can ski a few runs, or enjoy a dinner, by themselves.
Chalets judged with children in mind
Our team has visited every residence and notices what matters to families, such as how far the pistes are and where children can play. That knowledge shapes the shortlist we send.

Ask our teamWhen should we reserve a February half-term chalet?
As soon as your school publishes its dates. February is one of the busiest periods in the Alps, and family chalets close to the slopes are among the first to be reserved.
Which resort is best for young children?
Each has its strengths. Courchevel offers a wide variety of gentle terrain, Zermatt’s car-free village is relaxed to walk around, and St. Moritz has plenty for non-skiers. We suggest a resort once we know the ages and levels of your children.
Can childcare be arranged during the holiday?
Yes, childcare can be arranged on request. Because February is busy, we recommend mentioning it when you first contact us.
Do you have a ski-in/ski-out chalet for families?
Chalet Erise in Courchevel 1850 is ski-in/ski-out. Other chalets, such as Chalet Flys in Courchevel Village and Chalet Auron in Verbier, are close to the pistes.
What is included in a family stay?
Breakfast every morning and the help of a private concierge are part of every family stay. Chefs, childcare, transfers and the rest are added on request and listed in your tailored proposal.
