A multigenerational family holiday under one roof
Villas on the Riviera and chalets in the Alps where grandparents, parents and grandchildren share the days, keep their own rhythms and come together at the table.
In brief
Speak to Nathalie or AdamBringing three generations together is one of the most rewarding holidays a family can take, and one of the hardest to plan. Grandparents may want quiet mornings and easy access, parents need a break, and grandchildren want everything at once. A multigenerational family holiday works when the house itself makes room for all of that.
We approach these stays by listening first. Who is travelling, who prefers to be up early, who would rather avoid stairs, who has not skied in years and who has never stopped. From those answers we suggest a villa on the French Riviera or a chalet in the Alps that suits the whole party, not only its most energetic members.
Lutetia has been a Paris agency since 1989, and every residence in our collection has been visited by our team before joining it. One dedicated contact follows your stay from the first call to departure, which matters when the people booking and the people travelling are not always the same.
Space to be together, and space to be apart
The finest family gatherings depend on a house with a generous heart and quieter edges: a large living room or terrace where everyone meets for an aperitif, and enough distance between bedrooms that an early riser does not wake a teenager. Our team can describe these layouts in detail because we have walked through them.
Some residences take the idea further. Chalet Astral in Verbier is a private estate of two houses in the Les Esserts quarter, a rare arrangement that lets grandparents or one branch of the family have their own front door while sharing meals and the spa. In St. Moritz, Chalet Calista has generous living areas designed for gathering after a day on the slopes.
- A central room large enough for everyone at once
- Bedrooms spread so different rhythms do not collide
- Questions about stairs and access raised early
- Wellness spaces that appeal to every age
Choosing the setting for every generation
A chalet holiday suits families where most people ski, though it need not exclude those who do not. With a spa, sauna or indoor pool downstairs, a grandparent who stays at home is not left out, and a chauffeur can take them into the village for lunch or to meet the skiers. Chalet Gus in St. Moritz, a restored 18th-century residence, has a particular charm for those who enjoy history as much as snow.
A Riviera villa tends to be the easier choice when ages range widely, because the pool and garden become a shared space without anyone needing equipment or lessons. Villa Vittoria at Les Canoubiers sits right on the water in Saint-Tropez, and Villa Zeliane in Cannes adds a tennis court and gardens to the pool. Villa Amara, in the quiet residential corner of Les Salins, looks out over the sea and has a cinema room for evenings.
Details that let everyone relax
With a large family, the hardest moments are often the transitions: arrivals from different cities, a celebration dinner, the day the children need minding. A private concierge is included in every stay, and on request we arrange chauffeurs and transfers, private chefs, childcare and spa treatments at home, so these moments are handled before anyone has to ask.
If the holiday marks a milestone, such as a significant birthday or a wedding anniversary, events and celebrations can be organised at the residence, from a long lunch to a dinner with music. Breakfast, served daily in every stay, gives the family a natural moment to gather each morning.
Homes for the whole family
Chalets and villas whose layout or setting lends itself to several generations sharing a stay.
What makes the difference
Every residence is visited by our team, every stay is followed by one dedicated contact, and breakfast and a private concierge are always included.
One plan, many travellers
Relatives often arrive from different countries on different flights. We coordinate transfers for each of them so the gathering begins smoothly.
Thought given to every age
We ask about mobility, sleep habits and children’s routines before suggesting a home. The result is a residence that suits the grandparents as well as the grandchildren.
A single point of contact
Whether the stay is organised by a grandparent or by one of the adult children, there is one dedicated contact who knows every detail. Nobody has to relay messages across the family.
Help for the celebration
Many of these holidays mark a milestone, and events and celebrations can be organised on request. Your concierge looks after the setting so the family can simply enjoy the occasion.
Good to know
Anything else? Our team in Paris answers personally, usually within the day.
Ask our teamHow do we choose between a villa and a chalet for three generations?
Think about how many of the group will ski and how comfortable the oldest and youngest are in the cold. Villas tend to suit very wide age ranges, while chalets work beautifully when most people want the mountain. We are happy to think it through with you.
Do you have residences with separate houses?
Chalet Astral in Verbier is a private estate of two houses, which is ideal when part of the family wants its own space. For other residences, we can explain how the bedrooms and living areas are arranged so you can judge the balance of privacy and togetherness.
Can you help if a family member has limited mobility?
Tell us at the very start. Because our team has visited every residence, we can describe stairs, levels and the route from car to door, and suggest homes that suit. Where a chalet has a private lift, as Chalet Anelle in Zermatt does, we will point it out.
Who organises arrivals when relatives travel from different places?
Your concierge does. Chauffeurs, transfers, helicopter transfers and private aviation can all be arranged on request, timed around each person’s travel plans.
Can we organise a celebration during the stay?
Yes. Events and celebrations are among the services available on request, along with private chefs and restaurant reservations. Share the occasion when you first contact us, and it will be built into your tailored proposal.
