Saint-Tropez vs Cannes: choosing your villa holiday
Beach days on the peninsula or the elegance of the Croisette: an even-handed look at two Riviera favourites, from an agency with villas in both.
In brief
Speak to Nathalie or AdamThe French Riviera offers many places to spend a summer, but two names come up more than any other when guests ask us for a villa: Saint-Tropez and Cannes. A Saint-Tropez vs Cannes villa holiday comparison is not a contest with a winner. It is a matter of matching the place to how you want your days to unfold.
Saint-Tropez, on its peninsula beside the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, is a village at heart, with the beaches of Pampelonne in Ramatuelle and a countryside of vineyards and pines behind them. Cannes is a town, larger and more urban, famous for the Croisette and its festivals, with residential hills above that are calm and green.
Our collection includes villas in both, each visited by our team before joining. What follows is how we explain the difference to guests who are still making up their minds.
A village by the sea, or a town on the bay
Summer life in Saint-Tropez tends to revolve around the beach and the sea. Days start slowly, lunch is long, and the evening drifts towards the old port. Villas are spread across the peninsula, from the waterfront at Les Canoubiers, where Villa Vittoria sits right on the water, to Les Marres along the Route des Plages, where Villa Orea looks across the vineyards to the sea.
Cannes moves at a more urban pace, with the Croisette, its seafront promenade, at its centre. Villas sit on the hillsides above, in quarters such as Californie, Basse Californie and La Croix des Gardes, close enough to town for an evening out yet quiet once the gates close behind you. Villa Elaris is in Californie, the most prestigious residential hillside in Cannes.
For many guests, the decision comes down to a single question: do you want to step out of the villa towards a beach, or towards a town? Answer that honestly, and most of the rest follows.
- Saint-Tropez: beaches, vineyards, a village atmosphere
- Cannes: the Croisette, town life, green residential hills
- Both: sea views and a long Mediterranean summer
When each town is at its best
Cannes has two moments in the year when it becomes a world stage. The Cannes Film Festival takes place in May on the Croisette, and Cannes Lions follows in June. Many villa guests in those weeks are there for work, hosting colleagues and clients, and a villa in the hills offers a private place to meet away from the crowds.
Saint-Tropez comes into its own in high summer, when July and August bring the peninsula fully to life. For a more relaxed visit, the beginning or the end of summer offers the same light with a gentler rhythm. If you are flexible on dates, we can tell you how each period tends to feel.
Getting there and getting around
Nice Côte d’Azur airport serves both destinations. Cannes is the closer of the two, while the road to Saint-Tropez is longer and can be busy in summer, which makes a helicopter transfer worth considering for the final stretch. Chauffeurs, transfers, helicopter transfers and private jets are all arranged on request.
Once you are settled, the sea links both. A yacht charter can take you along the coast for the day, whether towards the beaches of Pampelonne from Cannes or to quieter coves from Saint-Tropez. Your private concierge, included in every stay, can arrange it alongside restaurant reservations, private chefs and spa treatments.

What makes the difference
Every residence is visited by our team, every stay is followed by one dedicated contact, and breakfast and a private concierge are always included.
Two destinations, one view
With villas in both Saint-Tropez and Cannes, we can recommend based on your summer rather than our listings. Our advice is the same whichever way you lean.
Neighbourhoods explained
The difference between Les Salins and Les Marres, or between Californie and La Croix des Gardes, matters as much as the choice of town. Our team knows each area from visiting the villas there.
Calendar awareness
Festival weeks in Cannes and high summer in Saint-Tropez change both availability and atmosphere. We help you plan around them, or into them, as you prefer.
The same care in both places
Daily breakfast and a private concierge are part of every stay, on the peninsula or in the hills of Cannes. Wherever you choose, the service around the villa is consistent.
Good to know
Anything else? Our team in Paris answers personally, usually within the day.
Ask our teamIs Saint-Tropez or Cannes better for a beach holiday?
Saint-Tropez is usually the stronger choice for beach-focused days, with the long sandy shore of Pampelonne in Ramatuelle. Cannes has town beaches along the Croisette, but its appeal lies more in the combination of sea, town and festival life.
Which is easier to reach from Nice airport?
Cannes is closer to Nice Côte d’Azur airport, which makes arrivals by road simpler. Saint-Tropez is further along the coast, and a helicopter transfer is often the most comfortable option. Both can be arranged on request.
Can we stay in Cannes during the Film Festival or Cannes Lions?
Yes, though villas in Cannes are in high demand during both events, so early planning is essential. Our villas in Californie, Basse Californie and La Croix des Gardes are well placed for hosting during those weeks.
Can we combine both destinations in one summer?
It is possible to plan a stay in each, though a yacht charter or a helicopter day trip is often a simpler way to enjoy both from one villa. Tell us what you have in mind and we will suggest what works.
Which villas have the strongest connection to the sea?
In Saint-Tropez, Villa Vittoria and Villa Calista are both on the waterfront, and Villa Solara is a few minutes’ walk from Pampelonne. In Cannes, Villa Elaris looks out to sea from the Californie hillside.
