In brief

Speak to Nathalie or Adam

Few phrases in Alpine property are stretched as far as ski-in/ski-out. It appears on listings for houses beside a road, above a car park or a long walk from the nearest run, and guests discover the difference on the first morning, carrying their skis in boots. When someone asks us for a ski-in ski-out chalet in Courchevel, we begin by agreeing what the words should mean, then show the residences that genuinely match.

In our collection the answer is precise: Chalet Sally in Courchevel Village and Chalet Erise in Courchevel 1850, and no others. Several more are a short walk from the snow or the lifts, and for many guests they are the better choice. This page sets out the difference without blurring it, so that you can decide what matters for your own group.

Courchevel makes the question worth asking. Its 150 km of marked slopes connect into Les 3 Vallées, where runs lie between 1,100 m and 3,230 m, so the first lift of the day is the start of a long journey across the mountain. How you reach it each morning sets the tone for the whole week.

Defining terms

What ski-in/ski-out should mean

A true ski in chalet lets you clip in close to the door in the morning and ski back to it in the afternoon, with no shuttle, no taxi and no walk along the road. Both halves matter. A house beside a piste you can only reach on foot is convenient on the way out, but if the run home finishes somewhere below, the last minutes of every day are spent climbing.

There is a practical side too, one that photographs rarely show: a boot room with boot warmers by the entrance, somewhere to leave skis overnight, and a route that children can manage. These are the details we note on our own visits to each residence, and the ones we describe when we write to you.

  • Skis on near the door in the morning
  • A run that brings you back to the chalet
  • A boot room with boot warmers by the entrance
  • A route that beginners and children can manage
The two that are

Chalet Sally and Chalet Erise, on the snow

Chalet Sally is set on the slope of Les Brigues, one of the most sought-after quarters of Courchevel Village, and looks far across the valley. The piste is a minute from the chalet, and a red run brings skiers back to the door; a red is a run for confident skiers, so beginners may prefer to finish the day by gondola or with the driver. The Grangettes gondola links the village directly with Courchevel 1850 and runs into the evening. Inside, the house is made for long afternoons: an indoor and outdoor pool, a spa, a cinema, a games room with billiards and arcade machines, an indoor beach of real sand and even an indoor pétanque court.

Chalet Erise brings the same convenience to Courchevel 1850 itself. The restaurants and boutiques of the resort are about twelve minutes away on foot, the price of being on the snow, and evenings at home are well provided for: a heated indoor pool, a jacuzzi, a barrel sauna on the terrace facing the mountains, a cinema with a popcorn machine and a games room with billiards and karaoke. A private chef cooks half board, with breakfast and afternoon tea.

The two suit different temperaments. Sally fits groups who like the calmer pace of Courchevel Village with a direct link up to 1850; Erise fits those who want the top level of the resort and are happy to treat the village as an evening outing rather than a doorstep.

A short walk away

Chalets near the ski lifts, and why they work

If being on the piste is not essential, a chalet near ski lifts often widens the choice of house and setting. Chalet Valmont stands in Cospillot, at the centre of 1850, and is a three minute walk from the Croisette, the main departure point for the lifts and the meeting place for ski schools, with the boutiques and restaurants about 150 metres away. For families with lessons every morning, that combination is difficult to better.

Down in Courchevel Village, Chalet Flys is roughly 100 metres from the pistes in the residential calm of Les Brigues, and the Grangettes gondola is a minute away by car; its playroom has its own climbing wall. In Courchevel Moriond, Chalet Dace combines a calm street with a central position, the pistes about 400 metres away and the Ariondaz gondola giving direct access to Les 3 Vallées.

We describe these chalets by their real distances rather than lending them a label they do not need. For many groups, a short walk in the morning is a fair exchange for a central address or a quieter street, and every Courchevel ski chalet on this page has a ski room with boot warmers waiting at the entrance.

Why Lutetia

What makes the difference

Every residence is visited by our team, every stay is followed by one dedicated contact, and breakfast and a private concierge are always included.

I

Labels we will not stretch

We call a chalet ski-in/ski-out only when it is. Every other residence is described with its stated distance to the pistes or lifts, so the first morning holds no surprises.

II

Routes checked in person

Our team walks through every chalet before accepting it into the collection, and we study the way to the snow as closely as the rooms, including where children and beginners would join the piste.

III

Equipment brought to you

Ski passes, equipment hire and private instructors can be arranged on request, and at Chalet Flys ski equipment can be fitted at the chalet. The morning starts with boots on, not with errands.

IV

One contact through the week

The person who takes your first call remains your contact until you leave. If the snow, the weather or the group’s plans change, there is one person to ask.

Questions

Good to know

Anything else? Our team in Paris answers personally, usually within the day.

Ask our team
Which of your Courchevel chalets are truly ski-in/ski-out?

Chalet Sally in Courchevel Village and Chalet Erise in Courchevel 1850. At Sally the piste is a minute away and a red run returns to the door. Other chalets in our collection are close to the snow, and we describe them with their real distances instead.

Is a ski-in/ski-out chalet right for beginners?

It depends on the run. At Chalet Sally the way home is a red piste, which suits confident skiers more than beginners, who can come back by the Grangettes gondola or with the driver. For a party with ski school each morning, a chalet near the Croisette such as Chalet Valmont can be the easier choice.

Village or 1850: where is it better to ski from the door?

Both chalets work well on the snow, so the choice is really about the evening. Sally, in Courchevel Village, is linked to 1850 by the Grangettes gondola, which runs into the evening. Erise is in 1850 itself, about twelve minutes on foot from the restaurants.

Do the chalets near the lifts come with a chauffeur?

Chalet Dace has a private chauffeur available nine hours a day, and at Chalet Valmont a private chauffeur is available eleven hours a day. Chalet Flys has a chauffeur within Les 3 Vallées, and Chalet Sally a driver within the resort. For any stay, we can add more drivers or transfers on request.

When in the season can we ski from the chalet?

The ski season in Courchevel runs from December to April. Snow at the door depends on conditions, particularly at the very start and end of the season, so we are glad to talk through the timing of your stay before you commit. Prices are on request and set out in a tailored proposal.
