Luxury ski holidays in Zermatt, from first train to last run
How to plan a week in Zermatt around a private chalet: the journey via Täsch, the ski area and its glacier, days with guides and evenings at home.
In brief
Speak to Nathalie or AdamThe best luxury ski holidays in Zermatt are planned as a whole rather than in pieces. The journey sets the tone, the ski area rewards a little forethought, and the chalet ties each day together, from an early breakfast to a late evening by the fire. When those parts are arranged by one team, the week feels unhurried in a way that is hard to achieve alone.
Zermatt asks for slightly more planning than most resorts. It is car-free, it sits beneath the Matterhorn at the head of its valley, and its skiing stretches from the edge of the village to glaciers high above it and across the border into Italy. None of this is complicated, but the order in which things are booked matters.
This guide follows the shape of the week: getting there, choosing how to ski, and coming home each evening to one of our two chalets in the heart of the village, Chalet Zeyr and Chalet Anelle.

Zermatt can be reached in three and a half hours from Zurich Airport and in four hours from Geneva or Basel. Private vehicles can only drive as far as Täsch, where the Matterhorn Terminal offers 2,100 covered parking spaces, and shuttle trains leave from there for Zermatt every 20 minutes, completing the trip in 12 minutes. Many of our guests travel by chauffeur as far as Täsch; others prefer to take the train the whole way up the valley.
Once you step onto the platform in Zermatt, the last stretch takes care of itself. For both of our chalets, an electric taxi is waiting at the station on arrival and returns you there on departure, and Chalet Zeyr is in any case about six minutes from the station on foot. For guests arriving by private aviation, chauffeurs from the airport and helicopter transfers can be arranged on request through our concierge.
A ski area that reaches the glaciers
Zermatt’s Swiss ski area offers around 200 km of slopes, extending to up to 360 km when an international pass adds the Italian areas of Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche. Across Zermatt and Cervinia/Valtournenche, the Matterhorn ski paradise counts 50 lifts, starting from 1,620 m at the Zermatt valley station. Above it all, the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, at 3,883 m, is Europe’s highest cable car station, and its viewing platform takes in 38 peaks over 4,000 m and 14 glaciers.
That altitude is what gives luxury skiing in Zermatt its depth. Thanks to the Theodul Glacier, Europe’s highest and largest summer ski area with 21 km of slopes, skiing here is possible 365 days a year. In a winter week, it means high terrain to explore on a clear morning and, when conditions allow, a day across the border in Italy.
From Chalet Zeyr, the Sunnegga funicular is two minutes away on foot and the Gornergrat train about six minutes’ walk, while the Matterhorn Express gondola is easily reached by electric taxi. Ski passes are delivered to both chalets, and at Chalet Anelle equipment can be adjusted in the chalet itself, so the first morning starts on the snow rather than in a rental shop.
- Private ski instructors, with equipment fitted at Chalet Anelle
- High mountain guides and heliskiing on request
- Dog sledding and other mountain experiences for a day off skis
- Childcare and babysitting for parents who want to ski together
Coming back to the chalet
A ski day in Zermatt ends at the chalet door. At Chalet Anelle, the lower floor is given over to wellness, with a jacuzzi, a hammam, a sauna, a Nordic bath and a massage room, while a games room keeps children busy as the adults unwind. At Chalet Zeyr, the wellness area sits on the upper floor beside the living spaces: a sunken jacuzzi, a sauna, a cold bath and a relaxation lounge where massages can be given.
Afternoon tea is waiting on your return to both chalets, and a private chef prepares dinner, so there is no need to go back out unless you want to. Anelle’s large living room gathers around an open fireplace and opens onto a terrace facing the mountains; at Zeyr, guests can also use the gym, bar and billiards lounge of the private residence. On the nights the village calls, our concierge books the table and the electric taxi.

Every residence is visited by our team, every stay is followed by one dedicated contact, and breakfast and a private concierge are always included.
The whole week in one plan
Transfers, ski passes, instructors and dinners are arranged together by one dedicated contact, from the first call to departure. Nothing has to be pieced together from separate bookings.
Car-free logistics handled
We coordinate the chauffeur to Täsch or the train, the electric taxi at Zermatt station and the delivery of your ski passes. You arrive to a chalet that is ready and a week that is already organised.
Guides matched to your group
Private ski instructors, high mountain guides and heliskiing can be arranged to suit your group’s level and ambitions. Rest days can be filled with dog sledding, spa treatments or simply the view.
Children looked after
Childcare and babysitting can be arranged on request, so parents can spend a long day high on the mountain together. Younger skiers can take the morning with a private instructor and the afternoon in the games room at Chalet Anelle.

Ask our teamHow long does it take to reach Zermatt from the airport?
Zermatt is about three and a half hours from Zurich Airport and four hours from Geneva or Basel airports. Because the village is car-free, the final stage is usually by train, either through the valley or on the shuttle from Täsch, which runs every 20 minutes and takes 12 minutes. We arrange chauffeurs and transfers for every leg.
Which Zermatt chalet is closest to the lifts?
Chalet Zeyr is two minutes on foot from the Sunnegga funicular and about six minutes’ walk from the Gornergrat train, with the Matterhorn Express gondola easily reached by electric taxi. Chalet Anelle is in the heart of the village, a short stroll from its restaurants, bars and boutiques. Neither is a ski-in/ski-out house, but both keep the mountain close.
Can we ski into Italy during a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt?
Yes. An international pass adds the Italian areas of Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche to the Swiss slopes, taking the total from around 200 km to up to 360 km. A guide or instructor can plan the crossing so that the return to Zermatt is comfortable before the lifts close.
Can you arrange heliskiing or a mountain guide?
Yes, heliskiing and high mountain guides can be arranged on request, as can helicopter transfers. Tell us about your group’s experience when you enquire, so that we can suggest the right guide and the right day. Conditions on the mountain always have the final word.
Which Zermatt chalet suits our week best?
Chalet Zeyr suits groups who want the lifts on foot and a view of the Matterhorn from the living spaces. Chalet Anelle suits those who want the village on the doorstep, a dedicated wellness floor and a games room for children. Tell us your dates and how you ski, and we will recommend the one that fits, with pricing on request.
